Engineering Portfolio
Hi!
My Name is Ruth Spooner, and recently I graduated from UVM with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Design concentration. My passions are all about the outdoors and making it more accessible and enjoyable for all. I have been mountain biking since I was 7 years old and since I first rode my pink tires on dirt I have been following the biking wherever it took me. I attended UVM because of the bike team, and engineering was a natural addition. I have always had the lifelong goal of designing bikes, as they are my favorite thing in the world. I have competed since I was 12 in xc and started racing downhill and dual slalom in college, and I am proud to say I will be graduating with 2 national medals in dual slalom, 2nd junior year and 4th senior year. I am the Mountain bike Coach for the UVM cycling team, and I spent 2 years as the women’s coordinator which was so rewarding in all the advancements I have been able to be apart of on behalf of women's cycling. While I held the position the women’s team increased from 6 when I was a freshman, to now there are about 50 women participating in the team, all excited about bikes. In addition to all of my work with the cycling team I have many engineering projects I have done over the years that I am excited to share. I am happy to be continuing this work post graduation, and I am excited to have the opportunity to work toward my goals both personal and career wise.
